Vehicle enthusiasts will love our impressive collection featuring more than 40 beautifully restored vintage vehicles and fine examples from major Hampshire manufacturers. 

Thornycroft

Many of our vehicles were built by Thornycroft, the renowned local manufacturer that opened its Basingstoke factory in 1898.  

The Thornycroft Steam Wagon Company Ltd was originally based in Chiswick, but demand for their steam lorries and vans led them to build a huge new factory in Basingstoke in 1898, where cars were also produced from 1903 – 1912. You’ll find a re-creation of part of their factory here at Milestones.

Tasker's of Andover

During the industrial revolution, nearly every factory and workshop relied on steam engines like those made by Tasker’s of Andover. Brothers Robert and William Tasker were a visionary pair whose pioneering work in iron founding enabled them to produce high quality goods in large quantities. 

For over 170 years, the company was a leading manufacturer of a wide range of steam and stationary engines and road vehicles, agricultural implements and machinery, examples of which can be seen in the museum.

Portsmouth Tram and other vehicles

As well as vehicles from these giants of local manufacturing, during your visit to Milestones you’ll also see many other beautifully restored vehicles, from the only surviving Portsmouth tram, to classic motorbikes, a Romany caravan and even a 19th century steam-powered fire engine.

Standard admission to Milestones Museum allows you to explore the collection, and rest of the museum, as many times as you like for a whole year.
