GOOD TO KNOW
ACCESSIBILITY BLOCK II
Parking
There are seven allocated accessible parking spaces near the main entrance and space available for coaches and minibuses. Parking spaces for blue badge holders do not need to be booked in advance.
Toilets
Accessible toilets can be found on both entrance and museum floor levels.
GETTING AROUND THE MUSEUM
Wheelchairs can be borrowed for use during your visit. The wheelchairs are free, but subject to availability, so we recommend booking in advance. We do not have mobility scooters for hire, but you are welcome to bring your own.
The main doors into the museum are double width and open automatically. There are two lifts available, one either side of the main stairs.
Milestones is built on three levels with cobbled floors and tramlines in the Victorian and Edwardian parts of the museum. Some difficulty may be experienced by wheelchair users in this area. The 1930s area is flat, although some parts of the flooring are textured. Both areas have pavements with dropped kerbs.
Download our map below showing an accessible route around the museum avoiding most of the cobblestones (this is also available to pick up at our Welcome Desk).
HELPFUL DOWNLOADS
To help all visitors get the most out of their visit and know what to expect, you'll find below some helpful maps and a visual story for you to download.
ASSISTANCE DOGS
Guide and assistance dogs are welcome at the museum. They should be appropriately trained, supervised and kept with you on a leash at all times. Where possible, dog owners should bring their Assistance Dogs UK (ADUK) identification book and dogs should wear the appropriate tabards or harness.
ACCESSIBILITY BLOCK IV
Carers
We welcome personal assistants (carers) free of charge with those visitors that require them. If a customer requires multiple personal assistants, arrangements need to be made with the venue.
Quiet times
If you are looking for a quieter visit, we would recommend a weekday. Schools visiting Milestones normally leave at around 2pm.
